Sigiriya Access

Sigiriya Fortress is located 175 kilometers northeast of Colombo – the capital of the island, and 10 kilometers from the highway Ambepussa – Kurunegala – Trincomalee, located between the towns of Dambulla and Habarane.

To get there by car, you must take track A1 or A6. If you want to get there by public transportation, take a bus from Dambulla. There is a bus every 30 minutes starting from 7 AM. The trip will take approximately 40 minutes. From Colombo, the best way is to take this one-day excursion.

Access! A staircase of 1250 steps leads to the highest point of Sigiriya. The way from the bottom to the top lasts approximately 2 hours. Because of the high temperatures during the day, it is better to visit the place in the morning.
Be aware! Wear comfortable clothing and shoes, take a hat, and don’t forget about water and sunscreen!

Sigiriya Opening times

The ancient site is open daily from 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM (last entrance at 5:00 PM).

Sigiriya Entrance Fee

Locals can enter the site after they pay an Rs50 entrance fee.
Foreigners will have to pay $30. This will also grant access to the Sigiriya Museum.
